Welcome to paarijaat animal shelter

Paarijaat, a grassroot level NGO, has been working on various social causes and issues concerning the environment.
Paarijaat, has opened an animal shelter as it was felt that there still is a lot of work to be carried out for animal welfare. The condition of street dogs is pathetic in our country. Many argue that there are people who live in conditions far worse than animals; however where we have countless government and non government agencies working in the field of human welfare, there is a serious shortage of organisations that work in the field of animal welfare and despite commendable efforts of the organisations working for animal welfare, there still is a lot of work to be done in this area.
OUR AIMS
Paarijaat, is making a small beginning by opening its animal shelter at Sangam Vihar, New Delhi.

Our immediate aim is as follows:-

  1.     The shelter has 4 kennels, where injured dogs and ill dogs can be brought in for treatment.
  2.     Rescue abused animals and animals that have been abandoned by their owners.
  3.     Prevent cruelty towards animals.
  4.     Starting an ambulance service to pick up dogs that have met with an accident and ill animals.
  5.     Organising awareness camps, educating people and sensitising them towards animals.
  6.     Work towards abolishment of use of animals in laboratories for experiments.
  7.    At present, Paarijaat is feeding and taking care of 50 stray dogs in the vicinity, we aim to increase this number soon.

Its a fight for the 'Females'...

I was quite surprised to hear from Malleka recently about the gender bias in the dog world. That's because for the past few years we have not had this particular problem in our adoption programme in Mumbai. At WSD last month four females got very good homes (two adults and two pups). In fact one of the people (...)

Adopting stray dogs from India: Food for thought.

Dear all,

As a veterinary nurse I just wanted to put down my thoughts and experiences regarding adopting a street dog and transporting it back to your own country. Specifically countries with high quarentine regulations such as the UK or the USA. I am aware this can be quite a contraversial matte (...)

Indian Street Dogs and their 'rights'

There is no law that prohibits feeding of street animals, and that citizens who choose to do so are in fact performing a duty cast upon them by the Constitution of India.

Persons who are trying to interfere with their effort, or display aggression, can be held liable for having committed the offen (...)
